Elisabeth Janz Mayer-Rieckh holds a Master in Mental Health Counseling and in Gender and Development Studies and is trained as a Social Worker. For many years, she worked with humanitarian organizations in countries faced with forced displacement, including Hong Kong, Cambodia and Bosnia & Herzegovina, focusing on the plight of refugees and survivors of war and trauma. She subsequently trained as a Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner (a brain- / body- oriented trauma response model by Dr. Peter Levine). She currently works both in private practice in Vienna as well as with Hemayat, a Center for survivors of war and torture.
Elisabeth trained as a MBSR teacher with the Center for Mindfulness (CFM) at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center in the United States, has (co)-facilitated MBSR courses on a regular basis since 2007, and obtained teacher certification from CFM in 2017. Over the years, she has attended numerous continuing education seminars as well as mindfulness meditation retreats and her teaching is firmly rooted in her own practice.
